For anyone who has had a baby, especially if you are going the unmedicated and staying at home as long as possible during labor route, you may have heard of “labor-ade”. In my experience, once labor hits, it is TOUGH to focus on anything, much less eating snacks to keep your energy up. With my last labor, I drank “labor-ade” in the weeks leading up to labor religiously. It kept me hydrated during the late summer months. Plus, I was thirsty ALL THE TIME, so it was nice to sip on something besides plain water.
Once labor hit, labor-ade was essential! My husband stood by my side holding the straw to my mouth through contractions, and it truly gave me the energy boost I needed to make it through a VERY intense, albeit speedy, labor and delivery.
My due date for baby number 3 is just one day later than my due date was for baby number 2! Baby number 2 decided to hang out for an extra week before making her appearance, so I got an extra week to be super hot and large. Labor-ade saved me during those final days and weeks of pregnancy.
This time around, I decided I wanted to have a little fun with my labor-ade concoctions, so I decided to make slushies! This strawberry-lemon one is so yummy that my kids drank it up before I had the chance!
I also like adding fruit to my drinks because they are full of health benefits. Strawberries are high in vitamin C and fiber, plus they have a decent amount of folate, which is very beneficial for your growing baby!
Whether you’re expecting or not, this drink is sure to satisfy your thirst!
